Sierra de Castril
is one of the smaller Sierras in an area of approximately
12.265 hectares.
Although smaller there is still
a wide range of activities available such as hiking, mountain biking, caving,
birdwatching, botanical excursions, painting and fishing.
Animals often seen in the area
include the Mountain Goat, Wild Boar, Golden Eagle, (Lion)Vulture,
Peregrine Falcon, (Sea)Otter and Trout.
Sierra de
Cazorla, Segura y Las Villas
is within 15 minutes of our
guesthouse and is the largest Natural Park
of Spain in an area of 214,336 hectares.
There are many
different limestone mountains, gorges, valleys
and highland plateaus on more than 2000 meters and the rivers
Segura and Guadalquivir are well worth visiting.
There are a range of activities
available such of Bird and mammal watching, Archaeological and Botanical
excursions, hiking, mountain biking, caving, paragliding, painting, fishing and
swimming.
There is a Tourist Information
Centre in La Iruela where you can find details of many local activities such as
Climbing, Canoeing, 4x4 driving, Guad Bikes, etc.
Animals often seen in the area
include the Golden Eagle, Hawk Eagle, Short-toed Snake
Eagle, Booted Eagle, Falcon, Kestrel, Sparrow Hawk, Black Kite, Tawny
Owl, Eagle Owl, Scops Owl, Black Vulture, (Lion)Vulture, Egyptian
Vulture, Fox, Wildcat, Civet, Badger, (Sea)Otter, Deer, Mountain Goat,
Moufflon, Wild Boar.
Sierra Nevada although a little further a field, approximately 1.5 hours drive from Castril, this
is a wonderful place to visit during the summer or winter months and
makes a perfect day out.

The Sierra Nevada
National Park has an area of 86,208 hectares and includes 44 towns
in the provinces of Granada and Almería. The highest peak is the 3,481 m Mulhacén,
and is also the highest peak in the peninsula. The park has been classified as a
National Hunting Reserve since 1966, as well as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO.
More than 65 plants are native to the area. The Alpujarra region is found on the
southern slopes of the Sierra Nevada mountains.
Various activities are
available such as Hiking, Climbing, Quad Bike rides, Horse Riding, Bird
Watching, Mountain Goat Watching, Botanical Excursions, Paragliding and of
course during the winter months, Skiing.
Animals here include Golden Eagle, (Lion)Vulture, Wall Creeper,
Mountain Goat, Ibex, Badger,
Beech Marten, Wildcat, Toad, Frog, Salamander, Turtle, Snake, Lizard.
